Two shot Injection Molding

2021-04-22

Two shot Injection Molding, known as 2 material 2 shot molding, 2K molding or double injection molding. This is an innovative manufacturing process used to produce complicated molded parts from two different compatible materials into one process.

Through a highly specialized process you need to carefully control the injection steps of the process. The process includes two different kinds of raw material into a rotational or shuttle type mold.

Two shot molding is typically performed on one machine that is programmed to perform two injection steps into one cycle. The first step the machine injects the plastic into the mold from the nozzle. The mold is then automatically rotated or shuttled and then a different type of plastic is injected into the mold from a second nozzle.

Two shot Injection Molding optimizes co-polymerization of hard and soft materials to create a molecular bond. The result is a single part with a one-step production advantage. It can be used for a variety of product designs across many industries including automotive, medical and consumer industries. It also allows for molding clear plastics, colored plastic, hard and soft stylish finishes which can Improve your products appearance, function and its marketplace value.

The advantages:

• Overall Lower part cost

• Improved part integrity and function

• Multi-material efficiency

• Higher-quality plastic part fabrication

• Reduced handling and additional assembly

• Reduces overall process cost

• Scrap with assembly defects

• Enhanced appearance and cosmetic product features
